From February 27th to 28th, 2024, German Eastern Business Association in cooperation with the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan) organised a business trip of around 50 German companies to Baku.

During the first day of the trip, the delegation convened at the Ministry of Economy to explore business and investment prospects in Azerbaijan. Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economу of the Republic of Azerbaijan and representatives from various Azerbaijani institutions, Azerbaijan Investment Holding, and the German Eastern Business Association, including Executive Director Michael Harms, German Ambassador Ralf Horlemann, and Tobias Baumann, Executive Board Member of AHK Azerbaijan participated in the meeting.

They pointed out the favorable conditions for investment, particularly for German companies, across a range of sectors including industry, construction, renewable energy, agriculture, transport, logistics, ICT, finance, law, and consulting. The visit of a notable delegation of German firms, eager to collaborate, was a result of discussions initiated during the President of Azerbaijan's visit to Germany, highlighting the importance of economic and trade relations in strengthening bilateral ties.

On the second day of the trip, Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, hosted the German delegation at his residence.

The delegation, led by Michael Harms and comprising executives from top companies in Germany, included Thomas Falk, the Executive Director of Falk Consulting; Uwe Fip, Senior Vice-President of Uniper Global Commodities SE; Heinrich Kerstgens, Director of Board Projects at Rhenus Group international logistics company; Ulf Heitmuller, Chairman of the Board at VNG AG; Viktoria Gerasimova, Director of Regional Sales at Rohde & Schwarz; and Philip Sweens, Managing Director of HHLA International GmbH. Tobias Baumann participated in the meeting as a co-organiser of the delegation trip.

At the meeting, conversations occurred regarding the advancing economic ties between the countries, covering topics such as energy, joint projects, investment, and cooperation in various fields.

On February 28th, AHK Azerbaijan hosted the AHK Impuls event, welcoming over 70 member companies, chamber partners, and delegation members. Dr Samir Akhundov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency, delivered a keynote speech titled "Electricity Sector in Azerbaijan: Overview and Reforms". Additionally, Dr Michael Hilmer, Vice President of Uniper, and Olaf Letzel, Chief Business Development Officer of Schneider Group, were among the contributors to the event.

During their trip, the delegation had the chance to visit both the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ) and the Port of Baku. Both locations are significant hubs for economic activity and trade in Azerbaijan, offering opportunities for investment and partnership. These visits serve to strengthen bilateral relations, promote trade, and potentially pave the way for future cooperation and investments.
